Draft started [[August 8th, 2024]]
- I've been falling into a stationary rabbit hole lately
- Quick list of content
- [[Majohn A1 Press Retractable Fountain Pen]] video
- [[rOtring 800]] video
- JetPens youtube
- That video about bullet journaling with the Traveler passport
- That video about the Travelers passport which is at 14 fps
- This time it's a little different because it's mainly hardware rather than workflows (Zettelkasten, Roam, etc.)
- I've been using Obsidian as my daily log
- Using a [[Workflowy]]-like bulleted list with timestamps at the beginning of each point
- Linking to documents inline is working well, so is tagging
- I like that it's magically syncd and searchable, two things that my physical bullet journal never were
- A few weeks ago I was in a habit of sitting at another desk and only using my notebook to plan an "noodle", that was very rewarding
- I would block out time on my calendar to think about "Brazil Software Team Q3 Plan" and I'd turn away from my normal desk and just work within my notebook
- This came after a podcast/discussion about handling todo lists and notifications
- I wanted to silence everything and just focus, I get a lot of interruptions throughout the day
- Some of my best thinking has happened during those times and it was worth it because it set others up for success
- A distraction free tool to think is super useful to me
- Now I feel like I just need to solve the retrieval problem and figure a way to compound that work
- Picking up my Q4 plan in the pages after Q3 plan seems super valuable
- As an example but it feels similar
- I've been using the mini composition notebook as a dumping ground
- [[Mini Composition Notebook Idea]]
-
- It's low cost and low tech, but it's also low quality
- I could optimize the paper, the binding, etc. but I don't know if the reward is there yet
- The main thing is being able to separate things out but seek to them quickly
- I've been cutting the corner of the notebook so that I can flip right to the next available page, a huge game changer
- I don't know how that would work in a notebook with sections yet
- For bigger notebooks it's not that big of a deal but for a pocket notebook that I need to hop into quickly it's necessary
- I like the idea of having different notebooks that I can dedicate to different topics
- IT, Managment, Engineering Planning, Dumping Ground
- Being able to compartmentalize thinking is useful and to keep notes together
- I like my Obisidian vault because I can view all the different notes that are associated with a tag regardless of where they live on disk, if only there were a way to do that with paper
- InBe4 yes I transcribe all the important notes into Obsidian but it would still be useful in meetings where I don't have Obsidian up or want to work in analog mode
- Sections vs individual notebooks
- Individual notebooks were interesting but cumbersome
- discovered the Travelers notebook idea, that may be worth stealing
- I would need to make this pocket notebook system something that's in between a dumping ground notebook/just medium for noodling, and a full set of notebooks
- EDC
- I had a pouch that I was carrying around, what did I have in it?
- Rite in the Rain No 371FX-M Notebook https://www.riteintherain.com/3-25x4-625-stapled-notebook#371FX-M
- Fisher Space Pen https://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Space-Bullet-Clamshell-S400BCL/dp/B00K54CJZK
- Leatherman Signal https://www.leatherman.com/signal-439.html
- Whistle
- A collection of IDs that I use less frequently than my phone wallet (safety training, govt IDs, WeWork, etc.)
- Olight Arkfield Pro https://www.olight.com/arkfeld-pro
- Ledger Hardware Wallet https://ledger.com
- A couple gift cards
- Why did I stop?
- Ended up pulling the notebook and pen out so that I could take notes quick or because I was writing down multiple things, now three things in my pocket
- Going from here
- Going to try making sections in a notebook
- Bet that it will allow me to look at items within a similar theme
- Resume scanning my notebook at the end of each day
